Youth Fire Setter Program (YFS)

The Orlando Fire Department's Arson and Bomb Squad provides an interactive 2-hour youth fire setter intervention program free of charge to the community.

The program is for ages 6-16 and requires attendance of at least one parent or caretaker. The program is designed to divert youth curiosity of fire setting from the juvenile justice system.

In the 2-hour session, attendees will learn about:

  • Science of fire and explosions
  • Hazards of fire and explosives
  • Legal aspects of fire and explosives play
  • How to safely have questions answered regarding fire and explosives in the future

This program was developed in coordination with the National Fire Academy's best practices and local mental health professionals. Intervention Specialists are all NFA-certified and have a passion for educating our youth.

Diversion from Juvenile Justice System

This is a legal diversion program for youth fire setters.

Educate and Rehabilitate Youth

Many cases of youth fires relate to curiosity fire setting and thus, through education, they can avoid criminal charges and curb their curiosity.

Safer Community

An educated youth is a safer youth. YFS provides a safe learning environment to prevent future fireplay and criminal behavior.
