WHAT:
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Shan Rose, and community members will celebrate the grand opening of the South Street Urban Farm—a reimagined sustainability space that demonstrates how underutilized land can be transformed through local partnerships into a vibrant source of fresh, accessible produce.
As part of the celebration, attendees will join Mayor Dyer and Commissioner Rose in planting the first seeds in a newly installed Block n’ Lock garden bed. This innovative, locally designed mortarless concrete system reflects the power of community-driven solutions. The garden bed will soon feature a mural honoring the rich culture and history of the surrounding neighborhood.
The event underscores the City of Orlando’s continued commitment to strengthening local food systems, advancing community resilience and promoting sustainable practices. A key example of this commitment is the upcoming installation of a solar-powered composter, funded through a USDA cooperative agreement, which will provide residents with access to nutrient-rich soil and support a more sustainable future.
