WHAT:
On April 2, 2025, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will join District 1 City Commissioner Jim Gray, District 3 City Commissioner Robert F. Stuart and volunteers from the Friends of the Orlando Wetlands to celebrate the grand opening of the Orlando Wetlands Visitor Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the exhibits before participating in a guided tour of the wetlands.
The new 5,000 square foot facility is LEED-certified, designed with key sustainability features including energy-efficient lighting, solar power systems and native landscaping aimed at attracting local wildlife. Inside the center, visitors will experience interactive exhibits showcasing wetland habitats, water management and conservation efforts. The center also offers classrooms for educational outreach and serves as a destination point for guided tours led by the Friends of the Orlando Wetlands.
The Orlando Wetlands, which opened in 1987 as an advanced water reclamation facility, has seen significant growth over the years. In the last decade, visitor numbers have surged by 300%. The new Visitor Center reflects the city's commitment to preserving this unique ecosystem while providing educational resources to the community.
