WHAT:
On Friday, January 31, 2025, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Shan Rose, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost, Banyan Development Group, Florida Housing Finance Corporation, and Truist Bank will cut the ribbon to celebrate the completion of Fern Grove Apartments, Orlando’s newest affordable housing community for seniors, aged 55 and up. Following the ribbon-cutting, attendees will have the opportunity to tour one of the new apartments and explore community amenities, including the clubhouse, fitness center and game room.
The City of Orlando remains committed to ensuring that all residents, regardless of economic status, have access to safe, quality affordable housing. The city continues to develop strategies to expand housing options for residents at all income levels. All 138 one- and two-bedroom units at Fern Grove are reserved for residents with incomes at or below 70% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Programs offered at no cost to residents include literacy training, computer training, 24-hour support for urgent issues, and assistance with light housekeeping, grocery shopping and laundry.
Fern Grove features numerous green building and energy-efficient components typical of a market-rate complex, including PV solar panels on the roofs, a modern hot water boiler system, Energy Star appliances, LED lights, energy-efficient windows and plumbing to help reduce overall water and electricity consumption by residents.
In addition to the communities’ amenities, a screened-in porch adjacent to the clubhouse overlooks a courtyard with a butterfly garden and gazebos. Beyond the courtyard, residents will enjoy views of more than six acres of forever-preserved, forested wetlands covered in ferns.
