ORLANDO, FL - December 18, 2024 - Earlier this year, the City of Orlando introduced "The Canopy," the latest iteration of the urban gathering space formerly known as the Under-I Project. The official name of the project is another step forward in the development of this unique hub and came about through the most recent design exercise incorporating feedback from the city’s online survey and public meetings in the fall of 2023.
The project's cornerstone is the introduction of approximately 150 temporary public parking spaces, designed to cater to both short-term parking needs and the dynamic requirements of pickup and drop-off zones.
The new parking initiative introduces two new lots conveniently located in downtown Orlando. The first lot, located on Pine Street between Garland Avenue and Hughey Avenue, includes parking spaces for 3-hour public parking between 11 a.m. - 4 a.m. The second temporary lot, located on Central Boulevard between Garland Avenue and Hughey Avenue, offers spaces that will be designated for pick-up and drop-off only beginning Friday, December 20 between 10 a.m. - 3 a.m. for the StaffDNA Cure Bowl and then daily from 6 p.m. - 3 a.m.
This one-year pilot initiative is not merely an infrastructure development; it is a strategic endeavor to foster a safer, more efficient, and user-friendly environment for residents and visitors alike, navigating downtown Orlando.
These additional spaces will help with the traffic congestion that exists during downtown events that take place in the entertainment district and increase the pedestrian safety as 15,000 plus guests navigate the space before and after events.
Visitors can pay for parking in the Pine lot using the ParkMobile app. Please note that parking cannot be reserved in advance, so spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
This is just the beginning of Orlando’s commitment to a more accessible and pedestrian-friendly downtown as part of the DTO Action Plan.
